Pakistan Hotels Association
Pakistan Hotels Association was established in 1963 under Section 3 of the Trade Organizations Ordinance, 1961 and the license was granted by the Ministry of Commerce. All the compliance with the required law is being fulfilled to date and according to the Ministry of Tourism, this body is the only representative body of the hotel industry in Pakistan. All the leading hotels in Pakistan from One to Five Star are members of this Association. It is nevertheless to mention that what is the contribution of hotel industry towards national exchequer. Just to give an idea, only the hotel industry in Pakistan is contributing a remarkable amount on account of different taxes and revenues to the government. The purpose of this Association is to strengthen, promote and work with the Ministry of Tourism for the development of tourism and to give advice to the government to promote tourism in Pakistan. To more focus on specific, Association changed its name from Pakistan Hotels, Restaurants, and Clubs Association to Pakistan Hotels Association to have a clearer and true representation of this industry.
Hotel Industry in Pakistan
Pakistan has recently emerged as an important investment destination for new hotel development. After a gap of almost five years, hotels in Pakistan are witnessing substantial increase in growth, both in terms of occupancy and average rate and this trend is expected to continue. Since Pakistan is on the rising curve of the trend cycle, hotels will show signs of better performance in yields through consistent occupancies and higher average rates.
The feasibility of new hotel development is determined by the relationship between replacement costs and existing values for hotels. Based on hotel value per room and the associated cost benefit ratio, the cities in Pakistan have been ranked. The rankings may be used as a measurement index and should enable investors to choose the city of development.
The hotel industry showed a growth of 9.7 percent in hotels and 9.5 percent in rooms over the year 2005-06. The average growth rate in Hotel Industry was 5.0 percent in hotel establishments and 3.5 percent in rooms during the last five years.
Sector Objectives
The Sector Objectives Include:
(a) to enhance tourism activities, increase tourist arrivals, and make tourism an instrument for generating employment, alleviating poverty, and increasing foreign exchange earnings
(b) to promote affordable, accessible, and enjoyable domestic tourism and cultural and sports festivals; tourism of the religious sites and old civilizations; and foreign tourism linked to regional tourism particularly among SAARC and ECO countries.
(c) to enhance coordination between public and private sectors and upgrade resources to ensure desired standards of quality service.

- Circulation of newsletters and other literature concerning the hospitality industry
- Organizing conventions, seminars, and symposia
- Conducting research on hotel and restaurant industry and updating members on latest developments
- Training of human resource in different spheres of hotel and restaurant activity
- Taking legal action in favor of members when member's interest and thereby the interest of the Industry is at stake
- Help in expansion and development of existing projects
- Being the authentic voice of the hospitality industry and lobbying for all relevant matters before the state and central government
- PHA has become recommending body to the State Bank of Pakistan for issuance of Foreign License to member Hotels
- Representation to the Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and Finance for implementation of industrial status of Hotel Industry
